Ada’s Essentials was founded for Black women who need support in reaching their health and self care goals. The 6 self care foundations were created to help Black women organize the information and resources they already have around them into a personalized self care routine. Our founder, Olivia, created the 6 self care foundations. She knew that Black women needed a resource that was designed specifically for us and was also easy to implement into our diverse and unique lifestyles.
How can you use the 6 self care foundations?
The 6 self care foundations were designed specifically for ALL Black women. Regardless of health conditions, disabilities, or lifestyle, our mission is to help Black women in all walks of life design a routine that they can use to take care of themselves and reach their health and self care goals.
1. Lifestyle
Do you have time to eat throughout your day? Does your environment require you to take extra precautions for the health of your skin? Considering your lifestyle first and foremost will help you understand which of the following foundations need to be emphasized for your personalized self care routine.
2. Physical Health
Our relationship with our bodies is one of the most important relationships we have. There are countless ways to design your physical health foundation, but it all depends on what your goals are and what you can reasonably do without being exhausted at the end of every week.
3. Skin
The methods and products displayed in front of us everyday can seem overwhelming, and we want to make it easier to choose which ones work best for you. Since everyone’s skin changes throughout different seasons and stages of our lives, it is important to make understanding your skin an important step in designing your self care routine.
4. Mental Health
If you are unsure what taking care of your mental health even means, don’t worry. You are not alone. We will continue to provide resources in the forms of videos, downloadable documents, blog posts, and online events to help Black women like you uncover what taking care of your mental health looks like, and how to actually implement it into your weekly routine.
5. Hair
From feeling the need to straighten our hair, to figuring out what a “protective style” is and wondering if it is actually protecting anything, Black women have done a lot of learning and unlearning about our hair. Our goal is to help you learn how to take care of your curls and coils, what products work best for you, while maintaining a healthy relationship with your hair along the way.
6. Nutrition
Food can be a difficult and emotional topic, but it gives us the energy we need to do the things we love. Our goal is to help you create meals you enjoy, while also finding a balance with the food that nourishes your body.
