We hear this all the time. “How are you?”. Walking into the office, or passing by your colleague in the parking lot. But do we use it as a greeting or a sincere question? Especially during times that were overwhelming this past year, how many times did you sit still, take a full breath, and assess how you’re feeling? What are some ways we can keep track of how we are doing and when we need to take a break?
Journal
Journaling may not be for everyone, but being able to write down thoughts and how you are dealing with major events in your life has been found to be helpful for so many women. Especially when there are transition phases in life such as moving out of your parents home, getting a new job, or starting a new serious relationship, being able to understand how you’re doing throughout that period may be helpful for you. When things are moving fast in your life, being able to look back and see how you’ve grown through those events, can help in going forward in other major events in your life.
Schedule rest and time to yourself as much as you schedule meetings and other responsibilities.
This may be very difficult for the hard working women reading this, but let us take a moment and consider how good we’d feel if we put as much effort in our self care and rest as much as we put into our work and other obligations. Your future self will thank you.
Find ways you can support your well being during busy weeks.
On those weeks when we just can’t avoid a full calendar, making sure you have a self care standby to help on days you need it is a perfect way to help get through the week. Maybe you need something to look forward to like a nice takeout dinner, or a movie with friends. I usually buy a book that I enjoy reading and make sure my favorite candles are lit during my late night work sessions.
Understanding your balance is important, so having ways to keep track of how you’re doing is also important. We shouldn’t wait until we are overwhelmed and burnt out to reach out for help or take a break. What are some ways you check up on your well being through the week? Let us know in the comments below!
